  • The Festival is open for pianists worldwide without age limit.

Application Information

  • Deadline: Category A, B, and C have closed on December 10, 2017.  Passive Auditor is still opening to apply. 
  • Application Methode: Online Application only
  • Students can choose to apply to different categories which offer different course selection.
  • Students in different categories have different requirement to fulfill. There will be no more than 36 students accepted in the category A & B, no more than 24 students accepted in the category C. The final result will be announced no later than December 20th 2017.
  • Each Category has its own review process. For example students who did't get accepted in Category A will not be accepted to Category B, unless the student applied in both groups. Students can apply in multiple groups and each group will be reviewed from our preselection jury panel separately. 
  • Please refer to the detailed section in Category A, B and C for detailed requirement information.
  • Passive auditors can also apply here to participate the entire festival.

  • Students in the category A will receive six lessons, each lesson will be 45 minutes. Among the lessons there will be 5 lessons from the international distinguished faculty or the artistic director & one from the star faculty from Taiwan.
  • Students in the category A has to submit online video links of their performance in the application form to be qualified in the category. The online video should consists of at least 2 pieces in different styles and with the length of at least 15 minutes yet not exceeding 25 minutes.
  • Students in the category A will be performing in the Promising Star Concerts with the free program not exceeding 15 minutes of length.
  • The performance in the Promising Star Concerts will be their competition in the Star Concert Pianist Competition where they have a chance to win the concerto performance opportunity.
  • Students in the category A has to be born after February 1, 1983 to be eligible for the Star Concert Pianist Competition. However, there is no age limit to apply in the category A. Students born before February 1, 1983 can still be in the category A, yet their Promising Star Concert performance won't be judged as their competition.
  • Students in the category A has the option to choose whether to participate the competition in the application form. Previous winners of the festival are not eligible for the competition.
  • Students in the category A can audit all lessons & lectures freely. They will also be granted one free ticket to the All Star Faculty Concert.
  • Students in the category A will be provided 3 hours of practice time daily.
  • All students are invited to join our opening and closing ceremony.
  • Students in the category B will receive five lessons, each lesson will be 45 minutes. Among the lessons there will be 3 from the star faculty from Taiwan & 2 from the international distinguished faculty or the artistic director.
  • Students in the category B has to submit online video links of their performance in the application form to be qualified in the category. The online video repertoire is free of choice with the length exceeding 5 minutes​.
  • Students in the category B can audit all lessons & lectures freely. They will also be granted one free ticket to the All Star Faculty Concert.
  • Students in the category B will be provided 3 hours of practice time daily.
  • All students are invited to join our opening and closing ceremony.
  • Students in category C will receive four lessons, each lesson will be 45 minutes. All the lessons will be given from our star faculty from Taiwan.
  • Students in the category C doesn't need to submit online video, yet we will make the selection based on their application material and biography.
  • Students in the category C are freely to audit all lessons & lectures. They will also be granted one free ticket to the All Star Faculty Concert.
  • Students in the category C will be provided 3 hours of practice time daily.
  • All students are invited to join our opening and closing ceremony.

Application Requirement

  • Students in the category A has to submit online video links of their performance in the application form to be qualified in the category. The online video should consists of at least 2 pieces in different styles and with the length of at least 15 minutes yet not exceeding 25 minutes.
  • Students in the category B has to submit online video links of their performance in the application form to be qualified in the category. The online video repertoire is free of choice with the length exceeding 5 minutes​.
  • Students in the category C doesn't need to submit online video, yet we will make the selection based on their application material and biography ​.
  • Only piano solo pieces will be accepted, please don't upload concerto performances or performances in other form then piano solo.

Application Result

  • The applicants will be notified no later than December 20th 2017 for the 2018 Festival.
  • There will be no more than 36 students admitted in the category A & B, and no more than 24 students admitted in the category C.
  • The festival will notify each applicants per email notification.

Passive Auditor

  • The passive auditor can pay the one time tuition fee to get the free pass for all the activities during the festival.
  • The passive auditor who paid the one time tuition fee of 12,000 NTD will be granted one free ticket to the all star faculty concert.
  • If you don't wish to register as a full-time passive auditor, you may still purchase a pass to audit the lessons at the festival site (Department of Music at the National Taiwan Normal University), yet there will not be tickets available to attend the All Star Faculty Concert.
  • Passive auditors can sign up through the online application here.
  • There is only limited tickets reserved for all the passive auditors, sign up early to guarantee yourself free ticket to all the concerts.

Board and Lodging

The National Taiwan Normal University is located at the City Centre of Taipei, next to the colourful Shi-Da night market, and the elegant urbane Yong-Kang district. It offers vibrant and convenient choices of restaurants within walking distance. Students will be on their own with the meals.

Students can however sign up for the accommodation during the period of the festival. The NTNU guest house is only 3 minutes walk away from the festival campus.

Students 14 and under must be accompanied by a parent in the residence hall for the festival's duration.
